Akbar's serves authentic Indian cuisine in a relaxed, contemporary setting. Akbar's is one of the best Indian restaurants in Leeds, and as such very popular. Located on Eastgate, the decor is modern and attractive, the service is friendly and efficient and the prices are very reasonable.

Many apologies for the previous review that was aimed at akbars on greek street not any other akbars sorry for the confusion .
Unfortunately style over substance , and lacking in ANY authenticity from the dry bland curries to the over the top huge naan breads . Very 80s with lacklustre staff .Long anticipated visit resulting in huge disappointment , dont bother try your hand at home it wont be any worse ... if you insist on eating indian in leeds try the Shebab not fantastic but a million miles better than this .

I love Akbars on Eastgate and go there at least once a month with my husband. The last time I went there I took my Sister who had never been before and she is now badgering me to go back there with her. She absolutely loved it too. Everything is faultless, from the lovely, polite, friendly waiters to the ice cold beers and the exceptionally gorgeous food. I have never had a bad dish there! I do not like the Akbars on Greek Street at all though. I have only been there once but wouldn't go back. You just can't beat the one on Eastgate for ambience and quality. I really would recommend this lovely place to anyone!
I ordered Akbar's special vegetarian pakoras, paneer and chana balti and a family nan bread. This cost me 14.15 which is quite expensive, but my company was paying so it didn't really matter.I brought the food back to my hotel looking forward to eating it, but was very disappointed overall. The main dish was only half full in the tray, and had a thick layer of red oil on top, very greasy indeed. The nan bread was ok but a bit chewy, implying that the ingredients weren't of a high quality, as I have had really fluffy nans in the past at other take-aways. The starter was ok, and so were the 4 free dips and salad you get with it which was a bonus. There was mint yoghurt, mango chutney, mint onion chutney and sweet red sauce with onion and a nice salad.Overall, I wouldn't go here again, as the food was very greasy and unhealthy. To improve, I think they should fill the takeaway tray for the curry to the top, and not use as much oil in the cooking, 6.55 is relatively expensive for a vegetarian main. This is the first time I've had a takeaway and left loads of leftoversVery poor, don't believe the hype.

My boyfriend took me to Akbars for he first time, im not into indian food chineese is my thing so I was a little hesitant to go but he dragged me there and i was shocked to find that it was one of the best restaurants I had been to for the service they were billiant and coulnt do enough for us and the food was amazing. We had to wait for our table and the bar area was very crowded but the whole experience was worth it. The price was more than I expected but hey I wasn't paying hahaha seriously try it out you'll be satisfied
